I have worked at in education for twenty years. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from The Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1996. I graduated with a Masters in Education, Curriculum and Instruction in 2005 from The University of St. Thomas, where I also completed the Collaborative Urban Educator program. In 2012 I completed The Educational Specialist Program at The University of St. Mary’s, for The Ed.S in Educational Administration Program.
I developed, implemented, and directed a program called Teach and Learn where I worked with inner city youth to bridge gaps of social and college commonalities through teaching art to local urban youth. With this program at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design, I later received national and local awards, such as the KARE 11 Award and the Jefferson Award.
For two years, I worked with the Metropolitan Learning Alliance (an alternative High School in Bloomington focused on developing careers including visual arts, law, hospitality, and business). I taught at PYC, an alternative school for three years teaching language arts and fine arts. I have also taught higher education courses with Dakota County Technical College and The Minneapolis College of Art and Design. I have taught second grade, and several different middle level classes in Minneapolis along with working as a Dean of Students for several years. My most current job I work as The Positive Behavior Coordinator where I work with positive school wide and classroom engagement strategies throughout Minneapolis Public schools as it relates to social engagement, equity and academic support for all students.
I have hosted several community meetings for families, parents and community partners that desire to participate in the processes that govern the responsiveness of students successes. I work jointly with Hennepin County to develop strategies to respond to juveniles arrested giving alternate responses through restorative mindsets and equitable practices instead on punitive consequences.
Education allows me as an artist to engage the development and fostering of creative platforms in community, and schools.
